What is CryoSculpt – Fat Freezing?

CryoSculpt applies controlled cooling to a selected area within a nurse-led cosmetic body-contouring plan. It is not a weight-loss treatment.

How does it work?

A suction applicator holds the selected tissue while controlled cooling is applied. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or numbness can occur, and visible response varies.

What concerns does it help with?

Stubborn fatAbdomen fullnessFlanksDouble chinBody contouring

Who is it suitable for?

Clients close to their goal weight wanting to refine isolated areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms or under the chin.

Who may not be suitable?

CryoSculpt fat freezing is not suitable for everyone. Contraindications include: pregnancy and breastfeeding; cryoglobulinemia (cold-sensitive blood protein condition); cold urticaria or cold intolerance; paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria; known sensitivity to cold such as Raynaud's disease; open wounds or compromised skin in the treatment area; recent surgery or hernia in the treatment area; uncontrolled diabetes; and severe neuropathy or nerve disorders affecting the treatment area.

CryoSculpt is a fat reduction treatment, not a weight-loss solution. It is designed for clients at or near their goal weight who want to refine isolated, stubborn pockets of fat. Clients with significant overweight or obesity are not ideal candidates and may benefit more from a structured programme or medical weight management. A consultation determines your suitability.

What should I expect?

The applicator draws in the area and delivers cooling — an intense cold then numbness that eases. You can relax during the 60–75 minute session.

Preparation

Minimal preparation is required for CryoSculpt. We recommend arriving well-hydrated and having eaten a light meal beforehand. Avoid anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen, aspirin or fish oil) for 48 hours before treatment, as these can affect your body's natural inflammatory response to the frozen fat cells. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment, as the treated area may feel tender afterwards. If you have a sensitive treatment area, let your nurse know during your consultation.

Aftercare

After your CryoSculpt session, the treated area may feel cold, numb, firm or slightly swollen — this is completely normal. Your nurse may gently massage the area for 2–3 minutes immediately after treatment as part of the clinic protocol. Follow your written aftercare over the coming weeks: stay well-hydrated (drink at least 2 litres of water daily for the first week); maintain your normal diet and exercise routine — no drastic changes needed; avoid anti-inflammatory medications for at least 2 weeks post-treatment; avoid intense pressure or friction on the treated area for a few days; and ask your nurse whether any additional relaxation or wellness session is appropriate.

Some clients experience temporary tenderness, redness, bruising, numbness or itching in the treated area. Duration and visible response vary; your nurse will set an appropriate review point and explain when to seek advice.

Downtime & recovery

Many clients resume normal activities promptly, but temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or numbness can occur and may last longer for some clients.

Results

Any visible change develops gradually and varies. Your nurse will recommend a review point and whether another session should be considered.

Individual results vary. No specific outcome is guaranteed. Your registered nurse will discuss realistic expectations during your consultation.

Typical treatment journey

Consultation (assessment, area mapping, suitability) → Treatment day (60–75 mins, applicator applies controlled cooling) → Post-treatment massage according to protocol → Individual recovery and aftercare → Review of visible response → further treatment considered only after reassessment.
